newborn sessions

newborn photography can be quite challenging but so rewarding to be a part of your babies life. i love capturing these sweet faces each day! there is some planning that needs to take place prior to the session to make sure your photo shoot is successful.

here are some tips to help you plan and meet my expectations of your photo session.

birthday - must be scheduled within 1 to 2 weeks of life (best time is day 3-7 when baby is acclimated with his/her new environment). i recommend you to schedule your newborn session prior to baby’s birth to ensure a spot on my calendar, please contact me to book the session during your 2nd trimester and then send a quick email after you deliver to arrange a time for your baby’s session.

where - the majority of my sessions take place in your home. if weather is nice and mom and dad are feeling comfortable we can take the session outdoors.

props - i have a collection of bowls, baskets, blankets, knit hats and headbands that i will bring with me to the photo session. you are welcome to use your own props if you have family heirlooms please have them ready upon my arrival.

crank the heat - your baby will be naked most of the time or in a thin swaddle blanket.

loosen-up baby’s clothes to reduce the imprints. all curtains and blinds should be open to help me find the best natural light in your home.

sleepy - a baby in a deep sleep will take the best photos! be sure to make baby exhausted.

hungry - a well fed baby is a happy baby, please feed & burp baby right before our session. a pacifier can be a life saver as well.

volume control - please do whatever you can to keep the noise level to a minimum during your session. if you have other children that may create noise see if another family member can take them for a few hours. i have a white noise machine i use during the sessions to keep baby content.

patience - newborn sessions last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. it really depends on baby! if baby is wide eyed this is okay, many parents love photos with baby’s eyes open.

relax - i am comfortable holding baby as i hold and maneuver newborns all morning at the local hospitals. i have been doing this for quite some time. your baby is in safe hands so please feel free to rest or take care of things while i snap photos.
